Should I Choose Counselling or CBT?

Both of these talking therapies are used to treat mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. However, counselling focuses on encouragement and empathy through active listening. CBT therapist works with their patient to uncover the behavioural patterns that are linked to mental health symptoms. Once the links have been established, the CBT therapist works on practical changes that can break the link between unwanted behaviours and symptoms.

If the root cause of your mental health symptoms involve an event or a set of circumstances, you'll probably be advised to take the counselling route. Such events include bereavement, the loss of a job or the breakdown of a marriage.

If the root cause of your problems is related to inherent behaviours, however, CBT is probably the best option. To find out which route is best for you, contact the counselling experts at iGP today. One of our counsellors will assess your symptoms and arrange a treatment programme tailored to your particular needs.

How does an online counselling or CBT session work?

Once you've booked an appointment, you'll receive confirmation via email, which will include all the information you need. With online video appointments, there will also be a link to click when it's time to start your online therapy session. You don't have to pre-install any third-party software in order to attend your counselling session. You can click your appointment link on any internet-enabled device, including a smartphone, a tablet, a laptop or a desktop computer.
