What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a feeling of being overwhelmed, nervous, worried or uneasy - often in the face of the most mundane, everyday experiences or situations. A lot of people in Wales and across the UK suffer from generalised anxiety disorder, which is a condition that involves worrying about potential occurrences and things that might happen.

The Symptoms of Anxiety

  • Feeling restless or on edge

  • Excessive tiredness

  • Concentration problems

  • Mood swings

  • Racing thoughts

  • Sleep problems - insomnia and oversleeping are both potential symptoms

Whether you have bipolar affective disorder or you suspect you have some of the symptoms, the CBT therapists and counsellors at iGP can help. Get in touch to discuss your symptoms with a trained and sympathetic private clinician.

    What Is Bipolar Disorder?

Referred to as manic depression for many years, bipolar disorder is a condition that involves extreme mood swings. • Chronic fatigue

  • Over or undereating

  • Concentration problems

  • Mood swings

Fortunately, counselling and CBT can help you to deal with both the symptoms and the root causes of stress.

Whether you've been diagnosed with stress or recognise the symptoms in yourself, call iGP today to arrange a private counselling session.

    What Is Stress?

Stress is the result of the body's reaction to events or your mind's response to them. Stress is a natural response, and it can have a positive effect on your life if it's manageable. But when it's out of control, it can lead to physical and mental symptoms.

    The Symptoms of Stress:

  • Feeling overwhelmed

  • Irritability

  • Feeling worried all the time

  • Anxiety

  • Sleeping problems

  • Overeating

  • Smoking or drinking more than usual

  • Stress-Related Habits

The trouble with stress is you don't always know you have it. In fact, some people live with the effects of stress for years without realising it. As well as the condition's main symptoms, there are a few habits that develop when stress isn't diagnosed and tackled. Fortunately, these habits can be stopped with CBT or counselling.

If you're demonstrating any of the stress-related habits below, call iGP today for an initial discussion and to arrange your first counselling session.

    What Are Stress-Related Habits?

  • Hair-eating

  • Nail-biting

  • Skin-picking

  • Trichotillomania (an urge to pull out your own hair)

  • The consequences of these bad habits, for most people, are social in nature. But for people with long-term, serious habits, health problems such as infections and psoriasis can develop.

If you have one or more of these habits, you probably exhibit the behaviour without realising it. And the more stressed you get, the more your bad habit arises. Dealing with the root cause, as well as the subconscious urge involved, can rid you of your habit for good.
