What's Involved with a Forklift Truck Medical?

Our Doctors will provide you with a thorough examination and a certificate of medical fitness.

Your medical examination will involve:

  • Occupational Health Questionnaire

  • Vision Assessment

  • Blood Pressure Readings

  • Review of Medical History

Following the completion of the medical examination our clinicians will provide you or your driver with your certificate of medical suitability to drive a Forklift.

Please note that our clinicians will assess the driver's fitness and medical suitability for operating a vehicle based on the proposed tasks that they will be undertaking.

How often does a Forklift driver need a medical?

Although there is no specific requirement for an assessment, we advise that drivers be examined in line with those that undertake a Group 2 level. This requires an initial assessment prior to employment or undertaking the driving task, at 5-year intervals from the age of 45 and annual assessments for those over 65.

In addition to this, we would also recommend a medical if the driver has taken a sustained absence of a month or more. It may be possible that a driver's NHS GP says that the driver is fit for work, but this does not mean that they are fit for the specific duties that they undertake.
