In Clinic - Private GP Consultations

Service Information: While our online GP appointments are convenient and effective for many medical concerns, some conditions are better assessed in person. If your symptoms require a physical examination, diagnostic testing, or a hands-on procedure, an in-clinic appointment may be more appropriate to ensure a safe and thorough assessment. If needed, our team will advise you when a face-to-face consultation would provide the highest standard of care.

Who Are iGP?

iGP were the first Private GP practice in Wales to be registered by the HIW (Healthcare Inspectorate Wales) and have been operating for over 20 years. We provide direct access to Private GP appointments and services in a safe, welcoming and discreet environment in clinic or online via phone/video. Appointments are available to adults and children on an individual one off basis and you do not need to be registered with IGP to be seen by our doctors. We are not connected to the NHS and so appointments are not seen or recorded on your NHS records without your explicit consent.

1

Book an appointment directly online or by calling 03456 252 252. Payment will be required at the time of booking, so please have your details ready.

2

You will receive an Email and SMS with the appointment details and a link to connect to your video if applicable. There is nothing to install, simply click the link in the email and allow permission for your device to use the microphone and camera when prompted. Alternatively, you will be called by the doctor on the number your provided if this was the option you selected.

3

Once connected you will have time to discuss your concerns and any symptoms you may be experiencing. The doctor will then provide advice and details about any treatment or potential screening/testing that may be required.

What to expect during the appointment?

iGP's focus is on the quality of care for our patients. This means that we want to make the process of seeing a private doctor in via phone or video as simple and pleasant experience as possible. When you are connected the doctor will confirm your identification and ask if you require a chaperone to be present. We can provide a chaperone if you would like to request one. The doctor will ask that you provide details of your current symptoms and may also enquire about your past medical history if relevant. Please be aware that as a private practice, we do not have direct access to your NHS medical records.

How Can We Help?

Frequently Asked Questions

Navigating private healthcare can often raise many questions and concerns. To help you understand what to expect and how our services work, we've compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions from our patients. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us directly on 03456 252 252.

How much does it cost to see a private GP?

The cost of a private GP appointment will vary depending on the type of appointment or service you require. For example, if you wanted to see a GP in-clinic and it is your first appointment, we would recommend a 30 minute appointment so that you have enough time with the doctor. The cost of this first appointment is £129. However, if you needed a follow-up appointment, the cost would be £99 for a 20 minute appointment, or £79 if you simply wanted to speak to the doctor via phone/video. For a full list of our services and appointment costs, please see our Fees page.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

iGP offer same-day appointments, with minimal wait times, and longer consultation periods to address your health concerns promptly. We endeavour to see patients on the day that the enquiry is made and in most circumstances this is the case. However, where your first choice of appointment is not possible, due to greater demand at certain times, we will offer a suitable alternative. Generally, the sooner you contact us the greater opportunity for us to provide you with your ideal time and date.

Can private GPs prescribe medication?

Yes, providing that the doctor is satisfied that the medication is clinically indicated, iGP doctors are able to provide a prescription for the medicines required. However, please be aware that as we are a private clinic, the medicines prescribed are not subject to NHS discounts and you will need to pay the cost of the medicines at the pharmacy. Alternatively, we can arrange for the medicines to be delivered to your home. For more information about our prescription services, please see our Prescriptions page.

Prescriptions
Do private GPs offer specialist referrals?

To access private consultant or diagnostic services a GP referral is usually required. A consultant referral is included as part of a private GP appointment with iGP. If a referral is required, our GP’s will raise the referral and our admin team will liaise directly with the consultant to help arrange your appointment as swiftly and efficiently as possible. For more information about our referrals services, please see our Referrals page.

Referrals
Do private GPs provide emergency care?

No, I'm afraid our services do not include emergency care. For instance, if you are suffering from chest pains or breathing difficulties, we will always refer you to visit your local A & E department. Alternatively, if you believe it to be a life threatening situation we recommend that you contact the emergency services on 999.

Can I see a private GP if I am registered with an NHS GP?

Yes, absolutely! However, iGP has always recommended that you either remain registered with your current NHS GP practice or register with an NHS practice in your area. Certain services in the UK are only provided by the NHS and it is imperative that you maintain a relationship with your NHS service provider.

Can I Register with iGP?

Yes, while registration isn't necessary, we have a number of plans available to accommodate individuals, couples and families. You can register up to 6 family members from just £35 per month, enabling you to spread the cost of your treatment, which makes our private healthcare services more accessible. For more information about our registration options, please see our My iGP Healthcare Plans page.

Are consultations confidential and will iGP share information with my NHS GP?

Your appointment with us is as confidential as you want it to be and we will not share your appointment information or medical records without your express permission. There may be circumstances, such as prescribing particular medications, where we will need to liaise with your NHS GP practice in order to prescribe. There may also be times where you would like use to inform your GP of a test result etc. However, we are not linked in any way to NHS systems and your information is kept totally separate.

Are private GP services covered by insurance?

Unfortunately, we are not able to claim directly from your insurance provider, even if they have confirmed that they cover private GP appointments and services. However, if you have confirmed that your insurance provider does cover private GP services, we will forward you a full invoice of any costs incurred so that you can claim the money back from them.
