What is Shingles?

Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a painful skin rash caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. It primarily affects older adults and individuals with weakened immune systems. Complications can include long-term nerve pain (postherpetic neuralgia), vision loss, or infections. Shingrix is a highly effective vaccine that provides robust protection against shingles and its complications.
