Menopause Information
Menopause occurs when your periods stop because your ovaries start to fail, producing less and less oestrogen (and other hormones), until they stop working altogether. It's clinically defined as the time from one year after your last period, which usually happens around 51-52 years of age, but the symptoms of menopause can occur several years before this, and persist for 5-7 years (sometimes longer). Common symptoms include changes to your periods, hot flushes and night sweats, but there are a wide variety of other symptoms which affect women in different ways.
Everyone will have a different experience of menopause symptoms, but it is important to know that you are not alone, and that help is available to support you through your menopause and help you make choices that are right for you.
Here at IGP we offer a dedicated menopause clinic, led by Dr Sandar Hlaing, a member of the Bristish Menopause Society and highly-experienced GP who specialises in Menopause care and treatment.
