Conditions We Treat:
Appointment Information: A detailed consultation with a Consultant Gynaecologist, either in-clinic or online via video. This appointment includes a full review of your medical history and current symptoms, with time to explore your concerns and establish a personalised care plan tailored to your needs.
What to Expect: Your consultant will discuss your medical background, symptoms, and any previous investigations. Where appropriate, a physical examination may be offered during face-to-face appointments. You’ll leave with a clear, professional care plan, which may include investigations, treatment options, or referrals for further care.
Important: The Carmarthen clinic will not offer surgical procedures but will provide comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative care tailored to women’s health needs.

Appointment: Face-to-face consultation, used to review results, monitor treatment, or discuss the next steps in your care.
What to Expect: Discussion of test results, response to treatment, and adjustment of the care plan if needed.

Appointment: Remote follow-up appointment via telephone. For existing patients only, ideal for reviewing recent results, discussing ongoing concerns, or continuing care after an initial consultation.
What to Expect: Your Consultant Gynaecologist will call you to provide follow-up advice, review medications, discuss test results, or outline the next steps in your care. This appointment does not include a physical examination and is not suitable for new patient assessments.

Appointment: Conducted during face-to-face consultation. A targeted tissue sample may be taken during consultation to investigate abnormalities.
What to Expect: Local anaesthetic may be used. Results are explained during follow-up.

What to Expect: Repeat of existing medication with clinician review. May require confirmation of ongoing suitability.

Appointment Information: A healthcare professional collects a small sample from inside the vagina using a soft swab, similar to having a smear test. The sample is sent to a specialist lab where highly accurate genetic testing is carried out to detect DNA methylation patterns associated with endometrial cancer. Once your results are ready, your clinician will explain the findings and advise you on next steps.

Mr. Alan Treharne is a Consultant Gynaecologist with a special interest in menopause care and gynaecological ultrasound. He is a BMS-registered menopause specialist, and a strong advocate for accessible, patient-led women’s health services across Mid and West Wales. Alongside managing a wide range of gynaecological conditions, he plays a key role in national efforts to improve diagnostic imaging and care standards.

You'll meet with a consultant gynaecologist to discuss your symptoms and medical history in detail. An examination may be performed. A tailored care plan will be provided.
What is included in a ‘Consultation with Ultrasound’?
A full gynaecological consultation and a diagnostic ultrasound scan during the same appointment. Results are reviewed immediately, and treatment options discussed.
Can I have an ultrasound without a consultation?
Yes, we offer standalone ultrasound appointments for diagnostic purposes.
How soon can I be seen?
We aim to offer appointments within a few days. Please check our online booking system or contact our team.
Do you offer remote consultations?
Yes, we provide telephone consultations for follow-up discussions and minor concerns.
Is there a fee for prescriptions or letters?
No, both are provided free of charge as part of your care.
When would a biopsy be needed?
If an abnormality is found during your consultation or scan, a biopsy may be recommended to investigate further. This costs £250.

If you cancel your appointment 24 hours before it starts, then you will receive a full refund. However, If you cancel your appointment within the 24 hour period before the appointment is due, then you will be liable to pay the cost of the consultation.
