Appointment Information: Ear wax removal (irrigation) appointments are suitable for patients experiencing symptoms of impacted ear wax, such as reduced hearing, discomfort, or a blocked sensation. A clinician will first examine the ear canal to confirm that irrigation is appropriate and safe. Warm water is then gently introduced into the ear canal to clear the blockage. The procedure is usually quick and well tolerated.
Important: Ear wax Removal service is not suitable for children under 18 years of age. Please ensure you have been using drops in your ears (either a medicated solution or warm olive oil) for at least 7 days prior to having the appointment.

Ear wax is produced naturally by the body and is usually yellow, bright orange or dark brown. Earwax is actually a very important element of your ear health and is an efficient, natural way to protect the ear canal from external elements like bacterial infections, dirt and insects. Ear wax can also help keep the ear canal clean. Your body will normally produce a sufficient amount to maintain a healthy ear canal. However, sometimes this wax can become impacted and hard, which can lead to problems like Itchy ears, ear discomfort, earache, tinnitus and hearing loss.
Some people use cotton buds to try and clean ear wax from their ears, but this is actually more likely to push the ear wax further into the ear and cause an impacted blockage and further issues, rather than removing the ear wax. These blockages can also lead to infection.

Ear irrigation, which can also be referred to as ear syringing, is a process of removing a build-up of ear wax in the ear canal. From our clinics in Newport and Cardiff, we provide a quick and easy solution for those that are suffering from this condition. All ear wax removal appointments are conducted in healthcare registered clinics with calibrated ear irrigation equipment.
