Mr Alan Treharne is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special interest in ultrasound practice, providing care to women across mid Wales and the surrounding areas. Based in Ceredigion, Alan is committed to offering patient-centred care, focusing on delivering accessible, one-stop services for a variety of gynaecological concerns in a community setting.
Alan studied medicine at St George’s in London, obtaining both a BSc (Hons) and MBBS from the University of London. He completed postgraduate training in London and Wales, became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), and pursued further postgraduate studies at Cardiff University. He is a member of various specialist societies and serves as the Honorary Treasurer of the British Society of Gynaecological Imaging (BSGI), as well as the ultrasound module guardian for the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH).
Alan’s clinical expertise includes managing heavy menstrual bleeding, post-menopausal bleeding, HRT-related irregular bleeding, endometriosis, adenomyosis, ovarian cysts, and other reproductive health issues including menopause, PCOS, PMS, and vulval concerns. He provides diagnostic ultrasound, thorough consultations, and personalised treatment plans both in his NHS role and via iGP’s West Wales Women’s Wellbeing Clinic, where he offers private services such as well-woman checks, menopause care, contraceptive reviews, and fertility assessments.
Dedicated to education and service improvement, Alan is a regular speaker at professional events and actively promotes continuity of care, sharing detailed reports with GPs and ensuring timely follow-up for patients.
