Professor Colin Powell is a highly experienced General Paediatrician with specialist training in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and Paediatric Emergency Medicine. With over 40 years of experience in healthcare and more than 25 years as a Consultant Paediatrician, Professor Powell has worked in leading children’s hospitals in the UK and internationally.
He has held consultant posts at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff, and at Sidra Medicine in Doha, Qatar. He is currently a Visiting Professor of Child Health in the Division of Population Medicine at Cardiff University’s School of Medicine.
Professor Powell provides care for children from infancy through to adolescence. He sees babies, children and young people with a wide range of general paediatric concerns, including complex and chronic health issues.
Alongside his clinical practice, Professor Powell is a respected academic and researcher. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and five books, including a Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) exam preparation guide.
He is the current Paediatric Emergency Medicine Edition Editor for Archives of Disease in Childhood, the BMJ’s official scientific journal for paediatrics. He has supervised MSc, MD and PhD students, and contributes to medical education and postgraduate training across several universities in the UK, Australia, and the Middle East.
Professor Powell also contributes to national research networks, including:
- The British Association of General Paediatrics (BAGP)
- General and Adolescent Paediatric Research Network UK and Ireland (GAPRUKI)
- Paediatric Emergency Research Network for UK and Ireland (PERUKI)
- Vice Chair and Trustee for the Council on Addiction and Other Drugs (CARE).
