Dr Mike Layton

Consultant Psychiatrist

Profile:

Dr Mike Layton is a very experienced Consultant Psychiatrist. He has worked as Consultant in the NHS and Private Sector since 2008. His consultant qualification is in Psychiatry of Learning Disability. He specialises in complex neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric conditions.

He has held senior positions including Clinical Advisor to the Board of the Aurora Group and Medical Director for Priory Wales. He has been a medical member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal and the Social Entitlement Chamber Tribunal.

Dr Layton has extensive experience of medicolegal work, particularly in the Court of Protection. He is a member of the Court of Protection Practitioner’s Association. He has given evidence in a number of significant reported cases:

He was born and raised in London where he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate training.

In his spare time, Dr Layton enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, walking his dogs and travelling.

• ADHD in adolescents and adults (including diagnostic assessments)
• Autism in adolescents and adults (including diagnostic assessments)
• Complex neuropsychiatric conditions

Current appointments:

• Fieldbay Care (since 2013) - a provider of complex mental health care homes and supported living
• Orbis Education and Care (since 2017) – a provider of specialist education and residential care for adolescents and adults with autism and learning disability
• He also provides bespoke input for adolescents and adults with complex needs commissioned by NHS Local Health Boards and NHS Integrated Care Boards. This is commissioned on a case-by-case basis.

Continuing professional development:

• Dr Layton is member of Royal College of Psychiatrist continuing professional development group which reflects the full range of his clinical practice
• Dr Layton is a member of the European Huntington’s Disease Network, and participates in their Behavioural Phenotype Working Group
• Dr Layton is a co-opted member of two Royal College of General Practitioners special interest groups aimed at developing and improving healthcare
