Diabetes Test Information
If your doctor suspects you're suffering from diabetes, the first thing they'll probably do is send you for an HbA1c blood test. But if you need your results in a hurry, iGP can process your sample and let you know what happens next in just a day or two.
If you think you might have diabetes, this will be a worrying and stressful time. But rest assured, we'll do everything to ensure your diabetes blood test is comfortable and painless. Fortunately, you don't need to fast before your test. We'll take a small amount of blood from your arm and send it straight to one of our testing labs for analysis.
This initial test for diabetes should not be confused with the finger prick test, which is performed by sufferers who need to check their blood sugar levels. Your doctor will talk you through the process beforehand - and your results once they arrive. If your HbA1c level is 48mmol/mol or above, you'll be clinically diagnosed with diabetes. But if your result is between 42 and 48mmol/mol, you'll be classified as pre-diabetic, which means you may be able to prevent the full onset of the disease if you make immediate and significant lifestyle changes.
If you're suspected of having type 1 diabetes, you'll be required to undergo further testing to check your blood ketone levels.
