This is a critical warning
Our Faecal Occult Blood (FIT) Test is an easy, non-invasive way to check for microscopic traces of blood in your stool that may not be visible to the naked eye. While the presence of blood can be an early warning sign of bowel (colorectal) cancer, it may also indicate other gastrointestinal issues, such as polyps, haemorrhoids, ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticulitis, or colitis. Detecting hidden blood early enables prompt investigation and treatment, helping to prevent serious illness. This test is suitable for both men and women, particularly those aged 40+, or with a family history of bowel disease and can be completed discreetly at home.
All our home testing kits include a FREE GP consultation to discuss your results and next steps - giving you complete peace of mind from the comfort of your home.
Important: Only suitable for those 18 and over. Avoid collecting your sample during menstruation or if you have active bleeding from haemorrhoids or anal fissures, as this may affect accuracy.

The FIT test detects microscopic amounts of blood in your stool (faeces) that may indicate bleeding somewhere in your digestive tract. While this can be an early sign of bowel cancer, blood may also be caused by polyps, haemorrhoids, ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticulitis, or colitis.
Anyone aged 40 or over, or those experiencing changes in bowel habits, persistent abdominal discomfort, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, or with a family history of bowel disease or cancer, can benefit from this screening test.
Your test kit includes a hygienic collection device, clear instructions, and a prepaid return envelope. No fasting or special diet is needed, simply follow the guide and return your sample promptly for analysis.
This is a highly sensitive and specific laboratory test, offering improved accuracy over older faecal occult blood (guaiac) tests. It detects very small amounts of human haemoglobin, ensuring a precise and reliable result.
A positive result means that blood was detected in your stool, but this does not necessarily indicate bowel cancer. It could be due to polyps, haemorrhoids, inflammation, ulcers, or minor gastrointestinal irritation. Further medical assessment, such as a colonoscopy is recommended to determine the cause.
A negative result means no blood was detected at the time of testing. However, bowel conditions can develop over time, so if you’re over 40, or have risk factors, we recommend annual testing.
No, you should wait until menstrual bleeding or haemorrhoidal bleeding has completely stopped before collecting your sample. Even small amounts of external blood can cause a false positive result.
Your results are typically available within 2–3 working days after the laboratory receives your sample. You’ll receive a secure email link to our encrypted patient portal, where you can view and download your results. You will also have the option to book an online GP appointment to discuss your results (consultation fee applies).
For general screening, especially if aged 40+ or at increased risk, this test is recommended once per year. You may also repeat it sooner if advised by your GP or if new symptoms appear.
We want to ensure that all of our patients receive the information they need to make an informed decision about their Treatment. If you have any questions or if you require assistance with anything, please let us know.
