* Please note that vaccine cost is the cost per dose to have the vaccine with a nurse and not a GP. There is an additional fee of £25 for the vaccine to be administered by a GP. The number of doses required indicates the number of doses for a standard course. An accelerated course can impact the number of doses required. It is strongly advised that you leave plenty of time to complete the course before your trip. Some vaccination courses, with more than one vaccine required, may take up to a month or longer and many vaccinations will not become fully effective until weeks after the course completion. The brand of vaccine we supply may also vary depending on the current supply status of a particular vaccine.

Time: 30 minutesJapanese Encephalitis (JE) is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily in rural and agricultural areas of Asia and the Western Pacific. It affects the brain and can cause severe neurological complications, including inflammation, seizures, or even death. While the risk of infection is low for short-term travelers, vaccination is recommended for those spending extended periods in endemic areas or participating in outdoor activities in high-risk regions.
The Japanese Encephalitis vaccine provides effective protection against the virus and is administered in two doses spaced 28 days apart. It is recommended for travelers staying in endemic regions for extended periods, particularly during the transmission season. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against the JE virus, offering robust protection. A booster dose may be required after one year for those who remain at risk.
The vaccine is recommended for travelers planning to spend a month or more in endemic areas, especially during the mosquito season. It is also advised for those visiting rural areas or engaging in outdoor activities like farming or camping.
The vaccine provides a high level of protection against the virus when both doses are completed. It significantly reduces the risk of contracting Japanese Encephalitis during travel to endemic regions.
Most side effects are mild and include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or fatigue. Severe allergic reactions are extremely rare.
It is best to start the vaccination series at least six weeks before travel to ensure both doses are completed. If time is limited, consult your healthcare provider for accelerated schedules.
Protection lasts for at least one year following the primary vaccination series. A booster dose is recommended after one year for travelers who remain at risk.
